Rapid Diagnostics reports 42 minutes Time to Result for its new Rapid RT-PCR Point of Care Test to detect SARS-CoV-2 on its fully automatic Rapid MiniLab platform and heads for independent clinical evaluation and validation.

The CE marked Rapid MiniLab is fully automatic with all processes carried out onboard by the MiniLab’s patented miniature robotic arm.

The MiniLab System fully automates the PCR process from raw sample to result system, reducing the risk of human error, negating human variance, while improving reliability and repeatability.

The MiniLab was engineered to be user-friendly, so there is no need for highly skilled technicians in specialised laboratories, personnel can be trained to use the platform in a matter of minutes.

As all PCR processes are automated onboard the MiniLab and test cartridge is preloaded and sealed with the necessary reagents, there is no requirement for pipetting.

Test results are delivered by an intuitive touch screen display and an in-built printer format for the operator and secure LIMS for hospital use.

This fully automated PCR test allows for a fast clinical decision, ideally suited to hospital wards, entry to key buildings, such as  Government departments, agencies and public bodies, Houses of Parliament, Care Homes reception, entry to universities, colleges and schools, naval vessels, VIP functions, visiting dignitaries and key people bubbles. This could facilitate a return to work for many.

Robert Clink, CEO of Rapid Diagnostics, commented, ” The Rapid MiniLab with the SARS-Cov-2 assay will commence independent clinical evaluation and validation to confirm in-house performance parameters.

This automated, fast and accurate PCR Point of Care Test is integrated into one platform, with no other equipment required.

The 42 minute Time to Result allows the testee to wait for an “ on the spot “ result, making the MiniLab very effective in a decentralized setting, where time is precious.

This pandemic is being fought on multiple fronts, the MiniLab, giving a speedy result can compliment the work of the Centralised high throughput Laboratories.
